Woodworking is loved by many and provides an outlet for relieving and balancing stress. People make all kinds of things with wood. Whether big or small, the projects that are created are very rewarding and can even last a lifetime.

No matter how old you are, if you have never tried it but have a genuine interest then it is never too late for getting started in woodworking.

Woodworking Books for Beginners

If you are new to woodworking there are some great books to help you get started. The Complete Manual of Woodworking by Albert Jackson comes highly recommended. With more than 1,800 drawings, diagrams and photos, this authoritative guide encompasses the whole art and craft of woodworking. Designed to instruct and inspire every woodworker from the beginner to the most exacting expert, it has become a classic. It includes a discussion of all the principal hardwoods and softwoods, how to choose and use hand tools, detailed information on every woodworking technique--jointing, bonding, fastening, laminating, and much more.

Another well know book is Woodworking Basics: Mastering the Essentials of Craftsmanship by Peter Korn is said to be "the perfect 101 for beginners".

By taking your focus off your problems and investing time and energy into something like woodworking, you are working towards balancing a healthy mind and a healthy lifestyle. Hobbies such as this demand attention and allow us to be creative while building woodworking skills. It is also more productive to invest in something of interest than to spend your time worrying, anxious or depressed.
