The Downfall
by Dora Sanchez
(United States)
It hit hard like a stampede of elephants
I was young and I knew it
I knew that this isn’t the way life is supposed to be.
Blades, blood, cuts and scars piercing through every inch of my body
Sobbing
Every second of the night
It was all counting down to that Friday night
That Friday when the gin was too strong
And the music was too loud
Screams of the drunk
Vibration of the beat
The fingers of strangers up and down your body
The memories flood your mind
All at once
So quick
Too many
Make it stop
That’s enough
Run
On top of that parking lot it all ended
It all stopped as if it was meant to be
Maybe the thoughts will permanently stop if your heart stops too
This was my downfall
